Trailerwatch: W.

September 30th, 2008 · No Comments

A simply brilliantly edited trailer to a scarily perfect song choice. My interest in seeing Oliver Stone’s W. just spiked massively. Will be very interested to hear the U.S. criticial response before it’s unconfirmed Australian opening before the end of the year.

Even in the short glimpses of the trailer, how good does Brolin look?

Song of the Day: Under The Milky Way

September 29th, 2008 · No Comments

The aforementioned very mellow reinvention of The Church’s ‘Under The Milky Way’ by Bobby Flynn. It’s a shame I couldn’t find a live version on YT, because that slinky seductive bridge is a joy to watch performed.

Bobby Flynn @ The Basement 23/9/08

September 29th, 2008 · No Comments

Bit late to post on this, but I saw Bobby Flynn last Tuesday night at one of Sydney’s best live music venues, The Basement. He’s touring to promote his new album, ‘Out Front’. I don’t have the album yet, but it’s definitely on my next-to-buy list, particularly after the great show he put on for [...]

Australian Idol 2008: Final 10 Show

September 29th, 2008 · No Comments

First off, I didn’t comment on last week’s departure of Brooke Addamo, mainly because there wasn’t very much interesting about the show itself (Cyndi Lauper’s ‘Time After Time’ was just OK) and I definitely wasn’t devastated about Brooke’s departure. I mean, she isn’t cracking the Top 6 this year, not with the level of talent [...]

WTF Were They Thinking?!? - The Future Kings of Martial Arts

September 29th, 2008 · No Comments

This is just brilliant…. I never realised that one of my all time favourite viral vids, the black guy who attempts the backflip with nunchucks, was only one of many apparently auditioning for action movie glory. My second favourite in this collection is the guy with the prop apple who doesn’t quite deliver on his [...]

Grizzly Adam: Concert Photography

September 22nd, 2008 · 1 Comment

Time to launch a new category of posts I’m calling Grizzly Adam, where I can rant about something that is driving me nuts…. my first topic has been on the boil for a long time: Concert Photography.
I think it’s time we established new rules at concert venues: each person can use their camera or cameraphone [...]

Song of the Day: Oh

September 22nd, 2008 · No Comments

From his underappreciated solo album ‘Some Devil’, Dave Matthews with ‘Oh’:

Dave is one of my favourite artists to watch perform. He really makes his guitar talk and his vocal range stretches from blistering jams to tender, intimate ballads like the one above.
Love that simile in ‘Oh’, “like a kid loves candy and fresh snow.” [...]

Australian Idol 2008: Final 11 Show

September 22nd, 2008 · 2 Comments

Tonight’s special guest judge is introduced as “one of the most important artists of all time.” And if you didn’t know it was Cyndi Lauper beforehand, I think she would probably be your 7856th guess.
I love the total refusal to acknowledge that these “special” guests are often ex-stars who just happen to have a new [...]
