Just finished watching Fleetwood Mac: The Dance DVD for the first time. This song was a surprise stand-out, featuring the same classically inspired guitar that makes the live Buckingham version of ‘Big Love’ so amazing. Wow. Long live the Mac.

Carpe Diem!

This one made me laugh out loud….. the accompanying picture looks scarily like my work space (kidding!). While we’re on The Onion, here’s an example of the fantastic journalism done by the hard hitters at the Onion News Network, now available on Youtube.

Trailerwatch: Man On Wire
September 19th, 2008 · No Comments
Due out in Australia on 16th October, a documentary many of my favourite critics are raving about. ‘Man On Wire’ tells the story of Frenchman Philippe Petit’s 1974 attempt to tightrope between the Twin Towers. The response to this one seems universally positive, (can’t get more universal than 100%!) and it’s a fascinating subject for [...]

Another Way To Die
September 19th, 2008 · No Comments
Check out the Boombox for a preview of the theme song for the new Bond movie ‘Quantum of Solace’. Performed by Jack White and Alicia Keys, it’s called ‘Another Way To Die’ and it’s pretty damn kickass. As much as that sounds like a weird pairing, the song is actually pretty good evidence of their [...]

Song of the Day: Flume
September 16th, 2008 · No Comments
Stripped back, beautifully idyllic, heartfelt indie-folk from Bon Iver. I don’t know much about them at the moment, but this georgeous song has made me decide to rectify that quick smart. This fan video for another song off their album ‘For Emma, Forever Ago’ is also lovely.

WTF Were They Thinking?!? – “Hey Honey, Come Check Out This Noose I Made!”
September 16th, 2008 · No Comments
From the ‘wacky’ news file of WTF Were They Thinking ?!?, the story of Sean Jennings, a man in Spokane, Washington who attempted to kill his wife by luring her blindfolded into what he told her was a ‘Haunted House’ he had built for Halloween, but was actually just a noose hanging from the roof [...]

September 16th, 2008 · No Comments
Delayed again on posting my thoughts on Sunday and Monday’s Idol show due to my page temporarily disappearing yesterday – but fear not, Virgil Brigman is back on the air. Here’s a quick rundown of the Sunday show: Wes Carr An excellent start to the show. It’s obvious why he is the front runner, right? [...]

Trailerwatch: The Soloist
September 16th, 2008 · No Comments
Here’s a trailer for ‘The Soloist’, director Joe Wright’s follow-up to ‘Atonement’: It tells the true story of Nathaniel Ayers, a Julliard-trained cellist whose schizophrenia led to him becoming homeless on the streets of Los Angeles. The trailer itself seems a bit schizophrenic with the Stevie Wonder / classical music mash up and the mix [...]

Hamlet (Facebook News Feed Edition)
September 16th, 2008 · No Comments
Stop by McSweeney’s for a quick laugh at Sarah Schwelling’s cleverly abridged ‘Hamlet’ as told by his Facebook news feed. My personal favourite status update in the piece: Ophelia joined the group ‘Maidens Who Don’t Float’.

Song of the Day: Alive
September 12th, 2008 · 1 Comment
A couple of things I realised whilst watching this awesome throwback clip of early Pearl Jam rocking out ‘Alive’ at (what I think may be) the Pink Pop ’92 music festival. 1. PJ’s live energy is and has always been so potent. Just look at the people fifty rows back bouncing around like they’re on [...]
