Song of the Moment: ‘Kingdom of Rust’

August 4th, 2009 · No Comments

Had the absolute pleasure of seeing Doves perform at the Metro last Thursday night. The songs from their latest album, ‘Kingdom of Rust’ had a particular energy at the Metro show. This title track in particular was excellent. Here’s the moody road-trip video clip to accompany the song’s release. Simple yet beautiful.

Phrazes For The Young

July 16th, 2009 · No Comments

I’m a huge fan of The Strokes, and lead man Julian Casablancas is the epitome of a charismatic frontman. So I’m very excited about a Casablancas solo album: The cinematic treatment of this LP preview is very very cool. I’m curious about the merging of Casablancas’ unique voice and the electro sounds of this sneak [...]

Song of the Moment: Going To The Casino

July 14th, 2009 · No Comments

If Philadelphia Grand Jury are ever playing your town, put their gig in your diary. These guys are entertaining, energetic and possibly high (on life of course!). They make Animal from the Muppets look introverted. Here’s their debut film clip, ‘Going To The Casino’ P.S. They are supporting the also amazing Dappled Cities in August.

JJJ’s Hottest 100 Of All Time 2009

July 14th, 2009 · 3 Comments

…or Musical SausageFest 2009, as some commenters have noticed. Personally, I don’t think there is any bias in the lack of female representation in the list. The voting called for a list of your ten favourite songs, and for most fans of music your favourite songs would be comprised primarily of rock music, a domain [...]

You Don’t Scare Me!

July 2nd, 2009 · 1 Comment

Please take a moment to check out our entry for Josh Pyke’s current music video competition…. he asked for fans to come up with a clip for his next single, the extremely catchy ‘You Don’t Scare Me’. I decided to interpret the song VERY literally with this fun little clip: Please leave a comment here [...]

Song of the Moment: You’ve Got A Lot Of Nerve

July 2nd, 2009 · No Comments

Beautifully shot first single from Red Rider’s second album, ‘Drown In Colour’, due to drop very soon. Wow, it seems every music clip maker is going nuts with stop motion at the moment…. but when it’s done this well, you can’t complain. Cannot wait for my next Red Riders gig.

Song of the Moment: Bloodlines

June 23rd, 2009 · No Comments

Adelaide’s Leader Cheetah are the masterminds behind my current favourite album of 2009, ‘The Sunspot Letters’. A finely crafted mix of alt-folk and moody rock, Leader Cheetah’s debut album is simply amazing for such a young band. Here’s ‘Bloodlines‘, their first single: Leadman Dan Crannitch has an unconventional voice with hints of Bowie and Neil [...]

Song of the Moment: All I Want

June 18th, 2009 · No Comments

So, we’ve abandoned the ‘Song of the Day’ concept due to someone’s laziness – maybe it will be resurrected like a phoenix on the newly reborn RTP page. But, until then, I wanted to share something: Sarah Blasko, I love you. Only 3 more weeks to wait for Sarah’s new album, ‘As Day Follows Night’. [...]

Song of the Day: John She Was Never Only Dancing

May 26th, 2009 · No Comments

Played at my favourite live music venue, The Hopetoun, my recent favourite song title ‘John She Was Never Only Dancing’ by Sydney singer-songwriter Fergus Brown: Fergus has just released his debut album, with the almost-too-witty title ‘Burgers Frown’. He’s touring all over the place in the coming weeks and months (details on his Myspace), and [...]

Song of the Day: ‘Porch’

April 15th, 2009 · No Comments

This is what music is all about. Had the pleasure of finally watching the Pearl Jam MTV Unplugged DVD that comes with the deluxe edition of the remastered ‘Ten’ yesterday. This was my favourite of the tracks, the evening’s closer and definitely the most soulful performance of the show (even despite Eddie falling off his [...]
